BHADERWAH, Apr 5: Though the fresh snowfall in high altitude of Chenab region has brought down the temperature considerably resulting in return of cold wave in the entire region, the positive side of this is that high altitude destinations of Bhaderwah are experiencing sudden and unexpected rush of tourists, much to the delight of locals associated with tourism industry.
Local vendors who have set up their small kiosks at high altitude tourist destinations along Bhaderwah-Pathankot and Bhaderwah-Chamba interstate roads said that recent snowfall has significantly boosted tourism, particularly in areas like Guldanda, Chattergalla, Padri, Khanni Top and Bhal Padri.
“The snowfall after a dry spell has triggered a surge in tourist arrival and the activities like sledging and trekking are rejuvenating the local economy and increasing hotel bookings,” said Mohd Saleem, a local vendor adding that snowfall in the area was going on after regular intervals since the last five days.
“Our sole source of livelihood depends on tourists so the fresh snowfall is a welcome omen for all of us,” said Aamir Sheikh, 23, a tourist guide at Guldanda.
“This is our first visit to Bhaderwah valley as our tour operator at Katra suggested us to visit here. This tour has turned out to be the memorable one for us. Not only the landscape and weather is breathtaking, we witnessed live snowfall here which is our maiden experience,” said Abhishek Prajapati, a tourist from Ludhiana.
