Human trafficking racket busted, 6 arrested

Srinagar, Jan 23: Police today unearthed a human trafficking racket in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and arrested six people including three women of Jarkhand.
The Station House Officer, Pattan, DSP Ajay Sharma today conducted a raid on specific information in village Trikulbal, Pattan in North Kashmir early today and recovered three women and three human traffickers.
The SHO said that six persons including three women were arrested during the raid. The three women are from Jarkhand while the men are from Trikulbal village.
Sharma identified the three arrested persons as Altaf Ahmad Dar, Nazir Ahmad Dar and Bashir Ahmad Dar, of village Trikulbal Pattan. He said that during the investigations, it was found that trio had brought the three women from village Pakum in Jarkhand to Pattan in North Kashmir and sold them for marriage.
The kingpin of the racket Altaf Ahmad had got the two girls from the Jarkhand only yesterday. They were purchased for Rs 300 and Rs 500 from village Pakum in Jarkhand and were shown married with two of his accomplices Nazir Ahmad and Bashir Ahmad so that they could be transported to Pattan safely. Police have recovered carbon copy of the marriage document.
The SHO said that the two girls were to be sold out in Pattan area when police raided the house where they were kept. He said that the trio charged hefty amounts of money from the prospective grooms to whom they were planning to sell the women for marriage.
The SHO said that the modus opeeandi of the accused persons was that they would sell these women to men and manage their escape in a month and so, and then re-sell them to another prospective groom to earn money through human trafficking.
Sharma said that the arrested persons were involved in immoral business of human trafficking in and around Trikulbal area of Pattan town of Baramulla.
Sharma said that Police is looking for the other members of the gang and women who they might have trafficked. He said that once the case is completed the women will be sent back to home.
Police have registered an FIR (No 11/2013 under Sections 366-B, 109 Ranbir Penal Code) against the accused.
