SRINAGAR, Nov 21: Security forces today foiled a potential terror plot after a cache of arms and ammunition including two M4 assault rifles were recovered from a hideout near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.
An official said that based on specific intelligence, a joint operation was launched by Handwara Police and the Naugam brigade of the Indian Army in the Neeriyan Forest area along the LoC.
He said during the operation, the team busted a major hideout, leading to the seizure of two M-series rifles with four magazines, two Chinese pistols with three magazines, two hand grenades and several live rounds.
An FIR under number 39/2025 has been registered at Police Station Qalamabad, and further investigations are underway.
The official said the operation was aimed at preventing potential terror activities in the region and ensuring the safety of the public.
A day before the joint operation in Neeriyan Forest, security forces in Handwara had busted a narco-terror module and arrested a father-son duo in the Qalamabad area.
The father-son duo, as per police, was running an active narco-terror network in the area. Recoveries from the operation, police say included one pistol with seven live rounds and approximately 890 grams of heroin-like contraband.
