SHIMLA, Oct 16 : Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday inaugurated the Shimla Flying Festival and Hospitality Expo-2024 at Junga, near here, with the events aiming to promote adventure tourism and boost the local economy.
During his address, the Governor urged parents to encourage their children to participate in adventure sports like paragliding, emphasising that such activities contribute to the success of festivals and foster tourism growth in the state.
He highlighted the global acclaim that Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh, enjoys, and expressed optimism that the event would significantly benefit the local tourism industry and drive economic progress.
Governor Shukla also underscored the importance of preserving Himachal Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, renowned for its scenic landscapes and diverse traditions. He noted the economic significance of apple farming, which contributes Rs 5,500 crore to the state’s economy, and said events like this festival would further support financial growth in the region.
Addressing local businesses, he emphasised the need for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to improve production and explore new domestic and international markets.
The Governor acknowledged the pivotal role of MSMEs in empowering rural communities and enhancing the state’s economic potential.
In his speech, Governor Shukla raised concern over the growing drug menace in Himachal Pradesh and called for collective action to tackle the issue.
He stressed that combating drug abuse cannot be left to law enforcement alone, urging all sections of society to work together in protecting the youth from this threat.
He also promoted the consumption of millets, citing their health benefits, and encouraged farmers to adopt natural farming practices.
The Governor commended Arun Rawat, the event organiser, for his efforts in promoting Junga as a tourist destination and administered an anti-drug pledge during the event.
Students from Government High School Bhadech, Keonthal Convent School, and GSSS Junga performed cultural programs, adding vibrancy to the event. Rawat delivered a vote of thanks, appreciating the Governor’s support. (UNI)
