JAMMU, Aug 3: Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered an FIR against a house owner in the Bishnah area for failing to conduct mandatory police verification of his tenants.
A police official said on August 2, Police Station Bishnah received information that a landlord had rented out his property without submitting tenant details for verification, as required by the District Magistrate’s order.
During a preliminary inquiry, he said, it was found that Ajay Kumar, a resident of Chak Muraar in Tehsil Bishnah, had rented out his house to multiple tenants without following the verification process.
“Taking note of the violation, police registered an FIR under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Bishnah,” he said, adding that further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged all landlords to strictly follow the tenant verification guidelines issued by the District Magistrate.
“Failure to comply with the guidelines will lead to strict legal action,” they warned.
