The Divisional Bench of Jammu High Court has come down with a heavy hand on Pollution Control Board for trying to hoodwink the court by submitting a status report on the pollution caused by Jammu hoteliers who have not provided proper sewage treatment plants for their hotels. In the previous hearing the court had ordered the Board to submit the status report on STP. While examining the status report submitted by the PCB, the Court found it was totally misleading and hoodwinking the court.
There is no denial of the fact that there exists unholy alliance between the hoteliers and the PCB something towards which the court has made a forthright hint. The court was has directed PCB to submit exhaustive and fully fledged report within one day and not try to be too smart to use semantics that convey no sense, The court has asked the PCB to report sealing of defaulting hotels and not harp on suspending.
It is so sad that Jammu being a very strategic city with fast expanding economy and commercial activity should not provide state of art hotels and all pre-requisites desired under pollution control law. We highly appreciate the hard attitude adopted by the Honourable High Court giving a clear message to all that it would not compromise with the public health by allowing pollution of the environs of Jammu city. The hoteliers should take the right message and the PCB should immediately seal the hotels till the norms of STP are made functional.
