Hotel ‘Gupshup’ sealed in Nagrota over alleged illegal activities

JAMMU, Jan 24: The police and civil administration today sealed Hotel ‘Gupshup’ at Ban, Nagrota, following allegations of illegal activities being carried out on the premises.
According to official sources, the hotel, situated in a residential locality, had become a matter of concern for local residents, who complained that rooms were allegedly being rented out to young couples, leading to nuisance in the area. The alleged activities reportedly triggered public resentment and were viewed as a potential threat to public peace, tranquility and moral order in the locality.
Taking cognizance of the complaints and the information received, a joint verification drive was conducted by a team comprising the Station House Officer (SHO) Nagrota and the Executive Magistrate, Nagrota. During the inspection of the hotel premises, two young couples were found to have booked rooms. The couples, along with the hotel staff present at the spot, were detained for questioning to ascertain the facts and circumstances.
Following the verification, the authorities observed that the continued operation of the hotel could lead to further law and order issues in the area. To prevent the alleged unlawful activities and to maintain public order, the Executive Magistrate ordered the immediate sealing of Hotel ‘Gupshup’.
In addition, preventive action under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was initiated against the hotel owner, manager and all the detained individuals, officials added.
