JAMMU, June 21: Depart-ment of Horticulture, Jammu today organized a one day awareness-cum-grievances redressal camp at village Ranjan in Bhalwal Sub-Division of the district.
Director Horticulture, Jammu, Bhawani Rakwal, was the chief guest on the occasion. Chief Horticulture Officer, Jammu, LK Bali, Deputy Director, Horticulture (Central), Rajeev Mahajan, Subject Matter Specialist (Entomology), Sanjeev Kumar and HDO Bhalwal, Sandeep Sharma were also present.
A large number of farmers/ fruit growers attended the mega camp during which they were made aware about various Central and State Government schemes. They were also educated regarding soil sampling, method of plantation, pit digging and control of pests and disease in fruit plants.
Addressing the gathering, Bhawani Rakwal, said that this year Government has increased the target of plantation by more than 300 % and many more schemes have been launched to benefit the fruit growers.
LK Bali emphasized that the farmers should come forward for availing the benefits of different schemes of the department. He also laid stress on insitu plantation of Mango stones for covering maximum area under mango fruits in the zone.
Mohd Yousaf and Shishu Pal, progressive orchardists of the area, put forth the problems faced by the fruit growers of the area regarding scarcity of water, monkey menacenon-available of Harar plants and pesticides.
The camp concluded with vote of thanks by HDO Bhalwal, Sandeep Sharma.
