Hooda reviews situation along LoC, Valley

Excelsior Correspondent Srinagar, Oct 6: Northern Army Commander, Lt General DS Hooda, today visited Uri sector of the Line of Control (LoC) to review security with the local commanders. Lt General Hooda, who was accompanied by the Chinar Corps Commander Lt General Satish Dua, reviewed the security measures taken by the Army to prevent Uri type of attack on Army installations along the LoC in Kashmir. The Army Commander also reviewed the steps taken by the Army for further strengthening the Counter-Infiltration Grid along the LoC to foil infiltration attempts by militants into Kashmir. He was briefed about the stepped up patrols along the LoC and more vigil after the attack on Brigade Headquarter at Uri. An official statement said that Army Commander took stock of all measures taken by the Army to beat back any misadventure from across the LoC.

"During his interaction with officers and men on ground, he conveyed his compliments for their high levels of operational preparedness, vigil and morale and exhorted them to remain alert for any eventuality", the statement said. The Army Commander also reviewed the operations conducted by Army in the hinterland against the militants. He was also briefed about steps taken by Army for area domination in the hinterland to put pressure on militants. Lt General Hooda complimented the troops operating in hinterland for their professionalism which was amply displayed again in the successful foiling of militant attack in Baramulla on October 3 and today's operation in Langate, Kupwara in which three militants were killed. The Army Commander later visited Awantipora based Victor Force Headquarters where he was briefed by the Kilo and Victor Force Commanders on the security situation in Kashmir. He was briefed about the situation in Kashmir valley and was told that the situation is normalizing day by day and protests and violence is down by almost 90 percent. The Army Commander urged the heads of Kilo and Victor Force to maintain pressure on militant groups operating in the Valley. He also told them to continue with the humanitarian initiatives to help the civil administration.
