Hooda meets CM, discusses situation

JAMMU, Aug 4: Northern Command chief Lt Gen DS Hooda accompanied by Srinagar-based 15 Corps GOC Lt Gen Satish Dua today called on Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti at her official residence in Srinagar and discussed prevailing security situation in the Kashmir valley, which remained grim ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen divisional commander Burhan Wani.
The Army Commander assured the Chief Minister that Army will provide all possible assistance to the State Government, wherever required and asked for, to bring peace at the earliest.
The two Army Commanders were with the Chief Minister for over 45 minutes and discussed with her all aspects of the situation. During the meeting, the security situation in different parts of the Valley was also reviewed.
Earlier in the day, Lt Gen Hooda visited areas of Kashmir valley and reviewed the security situation and collaborative measures of security forces towards ensuring peace and calm in the region.
Reinforcing the need to maintain high vigil, he urged the troops to continue exercising maximum restraint in dealing with the protesting crowds and sensitize the people especially the youth to eschew violence to usher in peace at the earliest.
Lt Gen Hooda appreciated the various humanitarian initiatives by the troops to bring succour to common people affected due to the ongoing unrest and exhorted them to sustain this positive engagement with the `Awaam’.
