JAMMU, Oct 19: All J&K Home Guard Welfare Association here today staged a protest demonstration under the leadership of their president, Kamla Sharma and raised demands.
The protesting Home Guards demanded implementation of Supreme Court’s order regarding their wages and claimed that their counterparts in other Union Territories like Delhi are getting Rs. 21,360 while those in Pondicherry are getting Rs 23,731, those in Chandigarh Rs. 36,000 and those in Lakshdeep get Rs. 19,260 including allowances
“However, the Home Guards here lag much behind even after J&K has been reorganised into an Union Territory,” Kamla Sharma told reporters.
She also said that Home Guards are performing same type of tasks which a cop performs but comparatively they are paid very less as compared to the salary of a police constable.
Sharma demanded that the government should frame some policy for the Home Guards.
