JAMMU, Sept 12: In the wake of recent devastation caused by heavy rains and flash floods, the Managing Committee of Home for the Aged & Infirm here today held a meeting which was chaired by I.D Soni, president of the Home.
Speakers in the meeting expressed grave concern over the plight of elders, who remain most vulnerable in such disasters.
They unanimously resolved to open the doors of the Home for all elderly persons rendered homeless by the calamity.
Such elders should be physically and mentally fit, should be above 60 years of age and non-addict.
The institution has pledged to provide not only food, clothing and shelter but also medical care, emotional comfort and above all, dignity and reassurance to the elders during this tough time.
The Committee has further appealed to all the citizens, social workers, NGOs and institutions to step forward and identify such elders and assist in their rehabilitation.
