JAMMU, Oct 11: Nine-day long holy Navratras concluded today with the performance of ‘Kanjak Pujan’ and immersion of ‘Saakh’ (seeding stock of barley) in flowing water.
In Jammu city, a large number of devotees were seen gathered on the banks of Tawi River near Bikram Chowk and Ranbir Canal, for immersion of Saakh throughout the day. Some volunteers were also there to help the devotees in immersion of holy `Saakh’ without polluting the water.
Besides, the Saakh, a few devotees also immersed idols of Goddess Durga which were installed in the houses for performing Pooja -Archana during the Navratra festival.
As the occasion also marked Ashtami in the morning hours and beginning of Navami thereafter on the same day, devotees thronged to the temples, particularly Bawe Wali Mata near Bagh-e-Bahu for paying obeisance. Heavy rush of devotees was witnessed at Bawe Wali Mata temple, Raghunath Temple and other shrines.
‘Kanjak Pujan’ -worshiping of girl children, was another major ritual to mark the culmination of holy Navratras. During the ‘Kanjak Pujan’, which was performed in almost every house of Hindus, devotees washed feet of girl children and sought their blessings.
During the Navratra festival, devotees in several areas across Jammu city had organised ‘Pandaals’ in their respective localities where devotional songs were sung to invoke the blessings of Goddess Durga.
