SRINAGAR, July 15: Apni Party’s senior vice president Ghulam Hassan Mir urged New Delhi to engage with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to address their issues. He also demanded immediate holding of ULB and Panchayat polls in J&K and urged the Government to make initiative to ensure employment opportunities for the youth in J&K.
He made these demands today while addressing party workers’ convention in Baramulla. He expressed his disappointment over the way Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the martyrs’ graveyard a day after Martyrs’ Day.
He said, “we condemn the way police tried to stop Chief Minister at the graveyard but he too should have not have gone there this way. He should have done so with the dignity befitting the office of the Chief Minister, accompanied by divisional and district-level administrative officers.”
On the Government’s failures to deliver a good governance, Mir said, “The ruling party has not only failed to provide effective governance, but its inability to fulfil its promises has also become evident, even after nine months in power. Unfortunately, the BJP has also failed to play its role as an opposition party. It appears that both the ruling and opposition parties are hand in glove with each other.”
Senior party leader Dilawar Mir said that if the Government continues to ignore pressing public issues, it will completely lose its credibility. He said, “During the election campaign, Omar Abdullah removed his cap and pleaded with the people for votes, saying that his honour was in their hands. They respected his appeal and elected him and his party. But what has he done over the past nine months? If this Government continues to ignore public issues, it will completely lose its credibility.”
“The LG has openly clarified that only the police is under his authority, while the rest lies under the elected Government’s command. Then why this Government failed to deliver effective governance? Remember, you will automatically lose your Government if you do not fulfil your promises, deliver good governance and address the people’s issues and grievances-because in a democratic system, the people are the ultimate masters,” Dilawar Mir added.
Prominent party leaders also addressed the convention included Mohd Ashraf Mir, Yavar Mir, Shabir Ahmad Shah, Aftab Baigh, Noor-ul-Aman, Abdul Majeed Bhat, Mehmood Bukhari and others also spoke on the occasion.
