HoD Dogri removed, 3 scholars suspended for maligning JU image

JAMMU, Feb 16: Acting tough against the elements trying to malign image of the institution, Jammu University today ordered removal of Head of  the Dogri Department and suspension of three scholars.
The incumbent HoD Dogri, Prof Archana Kesar has been removed for writing an open letter to the Controller Examination on   a confidential matter while the three scholars, namely Sunny Babbar of Statistics, Gopal Singh of Dogri and Manzoor Ahmad of History Department have been suspended for damaging reputation of the university by labeling  bogus allegations  during a  press conference on February 9.
The action has been taken on the preliminary report of a University committee, headed by Dean Academic Affairs Prof Neelam Saraf.
It may be recalled that these three scholars, in their press conference under the banner of JURSEA, had accused the JU authorities of playing with the future of M A students by evaluating their answer scripts in a most casual manner.  They alleged that answer scripts of the students of M A Dogri (Semester-II) in Course No  454 of Directorate of Distance Education were got evaluated by  Prof Shiv Dev Singh Manhas  by three different persons, who were illegally sublet the job. They had even mentioned about  the letter in this regard, written by  HoD Dogri Archana Kesar to the Controller Examination for seeking to know  whether the answer scripts be sent for declaration of result or not.
Sunny Babbar, general secretary of JURSEA,  along with Gopal Singh and Manzoor Ahmad, had also labeled some other allegations against Prof Shiv Dev Singh and the Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma.
The inquiry committee, which was constituted on February 11, prime facie established that the intention of labeling false allegations by the scholars against the university, was malicious and intended to defame the institution.
On the other hand, Prof Archana Kesar has been punished for intentionally leaking out a confidential letter and then not responding to the explanation notice, issued to her by the University administration. She has also been removed from two other positions in the University.
According to the sources, rustication of these three scholars and more stringent action against Prof Archana Kesar after detailed report of the committee, is not ruled out.
