According to court sources, two threatening emails were received on the official email ID of the District Court within a short span this morning. The first email, written in Hindi, was received at around 9:20 am, followed by another in Urdu at approximately 9:31 am. Both messages claimed that explosives had been planted inside the civil court premises.
Following the receipt of the threat emails, a bomb disposal squad, sniffer dog units, and law enforcement personnel were immediately deployed at the court complex. The teams carried out a comprehensive search of all court buildings, offices, and public areas to rule out any potential risk. The search operation, which continued for several hours under heightened security, concluded at around 3 pm.
“A thorough search of the court complex was conducted, but nothing suspicious was found. The threat turned out to be a hoax,” said SHO Police Station Janipur, Inspector Vikram Sharma, adding that the security drill was conducted in a systematic manner without causing any inconvenience to litigants, lawyers, or court staff. He said initial technical tracing indicated that the emails originated from Tamil Nadu and were sent from the same email ID.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, said security was immediately beefed up at the court premises after the information about the email threat was received. He said that the bomb disposal squad and dog squad were pressed into service, and all offices within the court complex were thoroughly checked. He added that nothing objectionable was found during the inspection.
The SSP further said that although no case has been registered so far, the matter is under investigation to trace the source and motive behind the hoax emails. Security arrangements at the court premises have been strengthened as a precautionary measure.
Pertinently, similar threat emails were received on the same day by several courts in Punjab, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar. All such alerts were later found to be hoaxes, raising concerns over attempts to create panic and disrupt judicial functioning across multiple states.
