Srinagar Feb 1: Parts of Kashmir received snow, while rains lashed the plains today as the night temperature rose above the freezing point at some places, including Srinagar.
Snow was witnessed in Ski resort of Gulmarg, higher reaches of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Qazigund area of Kulgam district, while many parts of South Kashmir were hit by rains.
Srinagar city also witnessed early morning rains and drizzle in the evening.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at 2°C last night, up from the previous night’s minus 0.1°C. This was 2.6° above the season’s normal.
Gulmarg ski resort was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir at minus 7°C.
Pahalgam recorded a low of minus 1.4°C, up from minus 2.6°C the previous night. It was 3.8° higher than seasonal normal.

In Qazigund, the minimum temperature settled at 0.4°, while Kokernag recorded zero degree Celsius and Kupwara recorded a low of minus 1.7°C.
The wet weather led to drop in the day temperatures settling below normal at most of the places in the region.
Srinagar recorded a maximum of 8.0 degree Celsius, Qazigund 6.5 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 3.6 degree Celsius, Kupwara 6.2 degree Celsius, Kokernag of 5.2 degree Celsius and Gulmarg 1.0 degree Celsius. It was 0.6 degree Celsius, 2.0 degree Celsius, 2.5 degree Celsius, 2.8 degree Celsius, 1.6 degree Celsius and 0.4 degree Celsius below normal respectively for these places.
A 20-day ‘Chillai Khurd’ (small cold) began on Saturday, after the culmination of the 40-day harshest winter period, ‘Chillai-Kalan’. Chillai Khurd will be followed by the 10-day ‘Chillai Bacha’ (baby cold).
The Meteorological Department has said the weather will remain cloudy, and there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or snow, especially in the higher reaches, with thunder or gusty winds at many places tomorrow.
“Light rain, with snow in the higher reaches, is possible at scattered to many places on February 2-3”, MeT added.
Meanwhile, snowfall has been reported from Bhaderwah and other high reaches of Kishtwar, Doda and Ramban districts this evening.
