JAMMU, Feb 8: A meeting of the Victims of Terrorism Front (VoTF) was convened today under the chairmanship of Dilip Pandita to address the critical grievances and administrative lapses affecting the displaced community. The Front expressed its deep resentment over the Government’s failure to credit the advance relief assistance traditionally provided on the eve of Maha Shivratri.
Dilip Pandia emphasized that the non-disbursement of these funds has caused significant financial distress, hampering the community’s ability to perform the sacred rituals of their most significant festival. He urged the administration to ensure the immediate credit of this advance relief into the accounts of the beneficiaries to alleviate their mounting hardships.
The meeting also raised a serious alarm regarding the deteriorating living conditions within the Jagti township, particularly focusing on the acute health crisis caused by the supply of contaminated, low-grade water. It was noted with grave concern that many inmates are currently suffering from water-borne diseases due to poor filtration standards. Coupled with this, the Front strongly condemned the frequent power outages and demanded an uninterrupted 24/7 power supply across all migrant camps to ensure the festival is observed without darkness or disruption. The members resolved to intensify pressure on the Government to resolve the long-pending issue of monthly relief enhancement, citing the urgent need for a revision in line with the current cost of living.
Pandita urged the administration and the Relief Organisation to take immediate proactive measures for the upcoming festivities and make vegetables, walnuts, and other essential commodities specific to Maha Shivratri in all camp markets available.
Meanwhile, Jagti Migrant Welfare Movement (JMWM) also expressed concern over supply of contaminated water in the camp which can put the lives of people to grave risk.
In a statement issued here, today, the chairman of the Movement, Sunil Pandita appealed the Jal Shakti authorities to look into the problem and ensure pure supply of drinking water to inmates of township. He said in case the immediate steps were not taken in this regard there is every apprehension of epidemic to grip township.
Sunil Pandita also demanded immediate release of relief in view of Maha Shivratri festival and making of all arrangements for the holy festival in camps and non camp KP localities.
