JAMMU, Mar 8: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking and vehicle theft, police in the Jammu South area have seized 691.8 grams of heroin valued at around Rs 2.5 crore in the international market and recovered 23 stolen vehicles during the last 67 days under two special operations.
Addressing media persons here at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, SP Jammu South Ajay Sharma said that under Operation Sanjeevani-a sustained drive against narcotics-23 FIRs under the NDPS Act were registered against 33 accused persons.
During these operations, he said, police also made a commercial quantity recovery of about 262 grams of heroin from one Rashpal Singh alias Anda of Upper Gadigarh, besides other recoveries in separate cases.
In a parallel action under Operation Avtaar, he said, the police intensified efforts to curb vehicle theft.

Sharing details about the recent recoveries made in a theft incident, involving pan India gang of the thieves, the SP Jammu South said, Police Station Gangyal recently registered FIR No. 13/2026 after a Scorpio vehicle was stolen from the Kunwani Chowk area.
He said during investigation of this case, a team led by SHO Gangyal Inspector Sanjeev Chib traced the vehicle to Uttar Pradesh and arrested one Ramesh Singh of Dinanagar, Jammu.
During questioning, the police officer said, the accused revealed the involvement of another individual, Pawan Kumar of Bhiwani, Haryana, leading investigators to uncover an interstate gang involved in vehicle theft.
He said the gang used advanced electronic tools to disable vehicle alert systems and steal vehicles within 15-20 seconds, after which chassis numbers were altered before selling them through a wider network operating across the country. Stolen vehicles were reportedly sold for Rs 4-5 lakh.
He said police have recovered four vehicles linked to this gang, taking the total number of stolen vehicles recovered in the Jammu South area to 23 so far this year.
The officer also appreciated the teams of Police Post Digiana and Police Station Gandhi Nagar for solving a 2016 murder case of a 12-year-old girl in the Digiana area.
The accused, Ramesh Kumar of Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, who also happens to be the father of the deceased girl, was recently arrested by Delhi Police near Bhati Mines in South Delhi and subsequently handed over to Jammu and Kashmir Police.
