JAMMU, June 5: Police today seized pure quality heroin, smuggled from Pakistan, weighing 10.5 kg and valued at Rs 31.5 crores in the international market during a naka laid at Kud on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in Udhampur district.
Incharge SSP Udhampur Benam Tosh said a Kud police station team along with the para-military jawans of 84 CRPF intercepted Tavera No. 5832 JK01T, which was on way from Srinagar to Jammu, and arrested a narcotics smuggler from the vehicle.
The narco smuggler has been identified as Majid Khan son of Mohammad Hussain Khan, a resident of Kundli Barjala in Uri area of Baramulla district.
Benam said police recovered 10 packets of highly purified heroin from the possession of accused, which weighed 10.5 kgs having a value of Rs 31.5 crore in the international market.
He added that the heroin had been smuggled from Pakistan and it was a big success for the police. He said the accused was being subjected to questioning to ascertain the source of heroin, which could lead to some more arrests.
IGP Jammu Rajesh Kumar and DIG Doda-Ramban range Gareeb Dass had directed the police to lay nakas on the highway to check the transportation of narcotics consignments.
The accused has been booked at Kud police station in FIR No. 58/2013 under Section 8/22 NDPS Act.
