JAMMU, June 13: Ahead of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15, HelpAge India released its annual report titled “United by Family, Divided by Age” in Jammu today.
The report was launched by DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma during a function attended by senior citizens and social activists. The event saw the participation of Deepak Khajuria, senior journalist and executive editor of The Newsroom 24 Awaz Jammu, along with members of the HelpAge India team including Manager Neeru Sharma Khajuria, volunteer Tanmay Sharma, and renowned astrologer and social activist Darshan Shastri.
DIG Sharma said that the report is an eye-opener on the growing issue of elder abuse and stressed the need for societal awareness and collective responsibility.
He lauded the efforts of HelpAge India’s Jammu team for their selfless work in supporting the elderly population in the Union Territory.
He also assured that the police under the JSK Range are ready to collaborate with HelpAge India for the welfare and safety of senior citizens.
HelpAge India operates a national toll-free helpline (1800-180-1253) for the elderly, which is currently active in 15 states.
