RAJOURI, May 21: A heavy hailstorm struck Patrara Panchayat in Sunderbani area of District Rajouri, causing wide-spread damage to crops, plants, and some private property.
The unexpected weather event has left local residents in distress, particularly the farming community that has suffered significant losses.
More surprising it appeared to the people as there was no rain and just dry hail-storm, The snow-balls, weighing about 100 to 150 gms kept falling on the earth in Patrara area near Sunderbani for about 5 to 7 minutes, indicating a rarest of the rare incident.
The intensity of the hailstorm resulted in extensive destruction of standing crops and horticultural plantations. Many households have also reported damage to tents, rooftops and other structures.
This natural calamity has once again highlighted the vulnerability of the region’s agrarian population to unpredictable weather conditions, emphasizing the need for long-term mitigation strategies and support mechanisms for affected communities.
