Heatwave alert in three district of Himachal

SHIMLA, Mar 8 : The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, on Sunday issued a heatwave warning for Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts for the next two days. Although maximum temperatures have witnessed a slight decline during the past 24 hours, they continue to remain above normal across many parts of Himachal Pradesh.

According to the Meteorological Department, weather in the state is expected to remain mainly dry during the next two days. However, isolated places may experience light rain or thunderstorms under the influence of western disturbances and jet stream winds affecting the Western Himalayan region.

Despite the marginal dip in day temperatures, several lower and mid-hill areas are still experiencing unusually warm conditions for early March. Residents have been advised to take precautions during afternoon hours as heatwave conditions may prevail at isolated places in the districts under warning.

Minimum temperatures across many stations also remain above normal, resulting in warmer-than-usual nights in several parts of the state.In Lahaul and Spiti district, weather conditions remained clear and no weather-related disruption was reported. However, key high-altitude routes including Rohtang Pass to Sarchu and Darcha to Sarchu remain closed due to seasonal conditions, while stretches such as Sumdo-Lossar are open for traffic.

The rainfall outlook for the next 48 hours indicates very low chances of precipitation in Lahaul and Spiti, with hazy sunshine to partly cloudy conditions expected in areas including Keylong, Udaipur and Kaza.Maximum temperatures recorded in the state continue to remain high for the season.

Una recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.4 C, followed by Mandi at 32.6 C. Bhuntar and Kangra both recorded 31.4 C, while Dharamshala registered 30.4 C and Solan 30.0 C. Jubberhatti airport recorded 27.5 C, Nahan 27.4 C, Chamba 25.7 C and Kasauli 25.1 C. Manali recorded 24.0 C, Kalpa 21.8 C, Shimla 18.9 C and Tabo 16.2 C.

The Meteorological Department said temperatures in several lower hill districts are currently 5 to 7 degrees above normal, indicating an early spell of heat in parts of the state.
