JAMMU, Nov 27: Leaders cutting across party lines today paid heartfelt tribute to Late Girdhari Lal Dogra, former Finance Minister and a towering statesman of Jammu and Kashmir, on his 38th death anniversary.
The main commemorative function was organized this morning by the Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial Trust at G L Dogra Chowk, which witnessed the presence of senior BJP leaders, serving MLAs, and members of Dogra’s family.
Dogra’s daughters, Sangeeta Jaitley and Nidhi Sharma, Trustees of the Memorial Trust, were also present. They expressed gratitude for the continued respect people have for their father. “Even after so many years, people remember him for his immense contributions. He never discriminated against anyone, and the work he did for Jammu and Kashmir remains commendable,” they said.
Sat Sharma, President J&K BJP and Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), while paying tributes, said, “Dogra Sahab’s works are still cited as examples even after 38 years. Among the very few leaders whose legacy endures in J&K, Girdhari Lal ji stands at the top. He was the epitome of honesty and had a deep bond with the public. Despite serving as Finance Minister for 27 years, his record remains spotless. Today’s politicians have much to learn from him.”
Prominent personalities who attended the tribute event included Shankaracharya Govardhan Peeth Swami Adhokshjanand Devtirth Ji Maharaj; MLAs Chander Prakash Ganga, Arvind Gupta, Yudhvir Sethi, Kuldeep Raj Dubey, Satish Sharma, Sunil Bhardwaj, Vijay Sharma.
And from Congress party, former Minister Raman Bhalla, former MLC Ravinder Sharma, Yogesh Sahwney, Balbir Manhas were present besides Mahant Rameshwar Dass.
They offered floral tribute to the late leader and described him as a “multifaceted personality who contributed immensely to the welfare of the poor and marginalized sections of society. “Dogra ji’s life and ideals will continue to inspire generations to come,” they said.
A sapling was also planted on the occasion.
