JAMMU, Aug 19: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Masood Itoo, paid an official visit to Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar today to take stock of facilities and functioning.
The Minister was accompanied by Bahu Constituency MLA Vikram Randhawa, besides Director Health Services Jammu Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar, Director AYUSH Dr Nuzhat Bashir Shah and Chief Medical Officer Dr Harbaksh Singh.
Medical Superintendent, Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial, briefed the Minister about the Hospital’s overall performance and services being provided to patients. During the interaction, MLA Vikram Randhawa raised the issue of the underutilized 200-bedded Maternal and Child Health (MCH) block.
Taking note of the concern, the Health Minister directed the Director Health Services to prepare and submit a formal proposal for the optimal use of the MCH building. She emphasized that the proposal be pursued on priority, especially in light of the safety audit declaring the old hospital block unsafe by the Structural Wing (Design, Inspection and Quality Control Department), J&K.
The Minister also inspected key departments, including the Emergency Wing, Inpatient Department (IPD) Block, and Blood Bank, expressing satisfaction over their functioning.
Earlier in the day, the Minister also visited G B Pant Hospital to assess its facilities and functioning. She reiterated the Government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring optimum utilization of available resources for the benefit of the public.
