SRINAGAR, Aug 29: High Court has sought appearance of higher officials of Health and Medical Education (H&ME) Department for appraisal of court with regard to non-availability of certain life-saving drugs in Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and associate hospitals.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal observed that ‘Ex-facie the matter is sensitive’ and it appears most of the drugs are still not available and so much so owing to unavailability of Factor IX drug also, over 50 patients remained untreated.
The court in these circumstances before proceeding any further directed the Principal Secretary to Government H&ME Department as also the HoD Pathology, GMC Srinagar to join the proceedings virtually on September 2.
The order came to be passed after the Sr. Counsel Tasaduq Khawaja with advocate Iman Abdul Muiz informed the court that after a lapse of nearly seven months, certain anti-haemophilic drugs were released and made available to the college/hospital.
He however, added that there still continues to be complete non-availability of other essential life-saving drugs like Factor VIII and Von willebrand factor drugs. He with the proof of documents apprised the court that owing to non availability of Factor IX, around 51 patients remain untreated in the hospital.
In this connection a direction is sought upon the authorities at the helm of affairs to immediately ensure uninterrupted availability and supply of anti-haemophilic drugs and such other essential clotting factor concentrates to Government Medical College, Srinagar and all other designated treatment centers across the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir
It is further sought that a direction for release, without any further delay, the entire quantity of anti-haemophilic drugs lying stocked with Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Ltd to the concerned hospitals, in furtherance of the annual and supplementary requisitions already raised.
