HC directs JKMSCL for availability of life-saving drugs

SRINAGAR, Oct 9: High Court has directed the Managing Director, Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited to take cognizance of non-availability of certain life-saving drugs in hospitals and report the court on next date.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Arun Palli and Justice Rajnesh Oswal observed the matter is sensitive and requires immediate attention.
The bench after having heard Sr. Counsel Tasduq Khawaja with Advocate Iman Abdul Muiz viewed it is expedient to direct the Managing Director, Jammu and Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited to take cognizance of the matter forthwith and submit a detailed report as regards the grievances that are sought to be made.
It is being submitted in the plea before the court that certain anti-haemophilic drugs were released and made available to the college/hospital.
He, however, added that there still continues to be complete non-availability of other essential life-saving drugs like Factor VIII and Von willebrand factor drugs. He with the proof of documents apprised the court that owing to non-availability of Factor IX, around 51 patients remained untreated in the hospital.
In this connection a direction is sought upon the authorities at the helm of affairs to immediately ensure uninterrupted availability and supply of anti-haemophilic drugs.
