JAMMU, Aug 19: Twenty five Advocates have been designated as Senior Advocates of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh as the Full Court today undertook exercise in this regard after a gap of nearly five years.
The exercise for designation of Senior Advocates was undertaken by the High Court with the objective of recognizing professional excellence at the Bar while simultaneously upholding the principles of merit, diversity and representation of different sections of the Bar. The last such exercise was carried out on December 3, 2020.
There were 45 applications of the Advocates for their designation as Senior Advocates moved in terms of Notification No. 1784 of 2025/RG/LP dated 29.05.2025 read with Notification No. 2103 of 2025/RG dated 02.07.2025.
In accordance with the approved procedure, applications were scrutinized and evaluated. The applicants considered in this process represent different regions and include Members of the Bar practicing before the High Court as well as the Advocates actively engaged in practice before the District/Trial Courts.
In assessing the suitability of candidates for designation, their professional standing and seniority at the Bar were examined, taking into account age, length of practice, quality of advocacy, merit, integrity and reputation within the legal fraternity. Due importance was also given to inclusiveness in the selection process.
Upon detailed deliberations and considerations, the Full Court unanimously decided to designate 25 Advocates as Senior Advocates in terms of High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2025, subject to furnishing of undertaking in terms of Rule 5.
Those designated as Senior Advocates, include; Surrinder Singh, Shabir Ahmad Naik, Tahir Majid Shamsi, Syed Manzoor Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad Chashoo, Aseem Kumar Sawhney, Deepika Mahajan, Ravinder Sharma, Rakesh Kumar Chargotra, Masooda Jan, Amit Gupta, Tasaduq Hussain Khawaja, Chander Sheikher Gupta, Vishal Sharma, Nirmal Kishore Kotwal, Rameshwar Prasad Sharma, Ajay Sharma, Shah Mohd, Sakal Bhushan, Rajnish Raina, Shabeena Nazir, Rohit Kohli, Raman Sharma, Anupam Raina and Shivani Jalali Pandita.
