HC closes PIL on establishment of GIS

SRINAGAR, Nov 18: The High Court has closed the Public Interest Litigation with regard to establishing of 220/33 KV Gas Insulated Sub-Station (GIS), Haripora, Harwan in the outskirts of Srinagar city.
This Public Interest Litigation was initiated so as to stop the establishment/construction of 220/33 KV Gas Insulated Sub-Station (GIS), Haripora, Harwan, on the allegation that it would be very close to the Dachigam National Park and would adversely affect its environment and that its establishment is by encroaching upon the State land.
In response, it has been made clear that the Dachigam National Park is very far and would not be affected in any manner by establishment of the above Gas Insulated Sub-Station.
Court has been informed that it is being established on State land which has been transferred to the J&K Power Development Corporation and there is no encroachment on any land.
“The establishment of the Gas Insulated Sub-Station in question is in larger public interest and its construction/ operation is not to be hampered or obstructed on mere allegation that it is likely to affect the environment of the wild life”, Division Bench of Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Mohan Lal said.
Court while closing the PIL said, there is no specific allegation as to how it would adversely affect the environment and would have an impact upon the wild life. “In view of the aforesaid facts and circumstances, we find no substance in this petition and the same is directed to be closed”, Court concluded.
