SRINAGAR, Apr 26: The drivers operating from Dargah Hazratbal today demanded an increase in the fare keeping in view the Government’s order of functioning with 50 per cent capacity.
Drivers of buses and sumos joined held a press conference and urged the Government to either reconsider the decision of 50 per capacity due to COVID-19 or increase the fare till the order remains in place so that they do not face losses.
“If we go by the Government’s order, then we are facing losses, we will have to even pay for the fuel from our pockets; we have to pay insurances, we have finances and what not; what are we going to do with that,” the drivers said.
The drivers said that they have decided to shut the operations from Dargah Hazratbal due to losses that they have due to the Government order. “We have been on the edge since the abrogation of Article 370; since then we are just drowning not to recover,” the drivers said.
The aggrieved drivers said that if the Government is asking them to operate on half the capacity, then the Government should also recover various charges that we pay it just half.
“As we earn half if we comply with the 50 per cent order, then why can’t we deposit half of the token tax, half of the insurance and other finances; let the Government do that, we are ready to follow the orders in letter and spirit,” the transporters said.
