JAMMU, Apr 17: Expressing concern over the issuance of fresh notification by the Registrar NIT Srinagar for resumption of classes in the said institute from April 18 despite a highly surcharged atmosphere on the campus as well as in Kashmir valley, JKNPP chairman Harshdev Singh has urged for a review of the same till the appraisal of the genuine issues of the non local students by the HRD Ministry.
In a statement, he said that the non local students numbering nearly 2400, who are already in Delhi seeking redressal of their grievances would be prejudicially affected by the said notification as they have already missed their minor-I exams. He said that as per 16th April order, they would further be deprived of ECA exam which is scheduled to be conducted from 18th to 22nd April in the NIT campus.
Describing the decision of NIT authorities unilateral and arbitrary, Mr Singh sought the withdrawal of the same till the non local students are given a hearing in Delhi and their grievances are duly addressed by the concerned authorities, including the Union Ministry.
Seeking the personal indulgence of the HRD Minister, Smriti Irani, to break the deadlock and thereby to save the career of the students, Harshdev Singh lambasted the NIT Srinagar authorities for their high headedness, their adventurism in mishandling the situation and the resultant crisis leading to exit of non local students from Valley. He said that the HRD Minister should personally assess the situation in the campus before taking any decision with regard to resumption of classes or continuance of exams in the troubled campus.
He further said that the demand of the students for an extension campus Jammu could also be given consideration by upgrading GCET Jammu to the level of NIT.
