Harsh traffic fines harassment to public, transporters: Cong

JAMMU, Sept 20: Several senior Congress leaders have expressed serious concern over the severe harassment to the common people and transporters due to unreasonable harsh penalties and fines for traffic rules violations especially when the people are badly affected by the worst economic slowdown.
In a statement several senior leaders said that the heavy fines and penalties being imposed for minor violations of traffic norms has caused lot of hardships to the common man in the state which is already under various restrictions due to the prevailing situation thus further badly affecting the economy of the state, besides giving rise to scope for corruption.
They said that over ten states including BJP rules states have not implemented the amended MVA or reduced the penalties, realizing the hardships to the common man. In view of the prevailing situation and before streamlining the traffic system as well as working of transport Department the revised law be not implemented in the state, they said adding that there are also allegations of rise of corruption in the system, due to very harsh fines and penalties.
