UDHAMPUR, Mar 8: A hardware store caught fire at Garhi, near Udhampur city today, resulting in heavy loss to the shopkeeper.
The cause of the fire is not known and panic gripped the entire market and all shopkeepers and people ran towards the shop to put off the fire flames.
The fire broke out this afternoon. The people who reached on the spot poured water on the flames with the buckets to prevent it from spreading in adjoining shops.
SHO Rehambal Nishat Sumbria reached the spot with the police team and Vijay Kumar IC fire Station Udhampur and 1-FOD fire tenders after receiving the information with their strenuous efforts managed to control the fire after two hours.
The real cause of fire could not be ascertained while property worth over Rs 50-60 lakh was lost in the incident.
The police have taken cognizance of the matter.
