SRINAGAR, Jan 19: Chairman, Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has expressed serious concern over erratic power tarrif hike, particularly, in non-metered/ flat rate areas. He said common people were unable to pay huge power bills, making their life difficult.
In a statement issued today Hakeem Yaseen while terming erratic power tarrif hike in non metered/ flat rate areas as concerning, has urged the Government to lower the power tariff to provide relief to the affected consumer. He said consumers were complaining against inflated power bills issued to them by the PDD, exposing the common consumers to face tough times for survival and sustenance. He has urged the Government to announce at least 50 percent cut in the existing power tarrif rates so that consumers could have a sigh of relief.
PDF Chairman has said that on one hand, people were subjected to unscheduled power outages where on the other side power department issues inflated power bills to the consumers. He said in a welfare state, Government was duty bound to provide every basic service to the people at all costs, without expecting any monetary returns. He said in a welfare state each service provided by the Government should not be wieghed through the prism of economic gains or losses.
“Infact, whole of the Jammu and Kashmir was grappling with unprecedented power crisis, and the Government has miserably failed to provide respite to the consumers from the prevailing power crisis,” Yaseen maintained.
