Srinagar, May 11: Several parts of Kashmir witnessed a heavy hailstorm today, followed by rainfall and gusty winds, causing damage to standing crops in the affected areas.
Reports said the hailstorm hit parts of north Kashmir’s Chowkibal, as well as areas in south Kashmir including Shopian, Tral and parts of Pulwama.
Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was also affected, while light snowfall was reported at Peer Ki Gali and Sinthan Pass.
According to the Meteorological Department (MeT), rain and thunderstorms were predicted at many places across Jammu and Kashmir post noon.
The department has forecast partly to generally cloudy weather for May 11 and 12, with spells of rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds at scattered to fairly widespread locations, particularly in the afternoon.
For May 13, the forecast suggests partly cloudy weather with a brief spell of light rain or thunder at isolated to scattered places.
From May 14 to 18, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, MeT stated.
It has also issued an advisory, as per which, people have been advised to follow administrative and traffic advisories.
MeT has also directed for avoiding boating or Shikara rides in Dal Lake, Wular Lake, and other water bodies during inclement weather or gusty winds.
“Intense showers at vulnerable locations may lead to landslides or mudslides.”
MeT also noted that there is going to be a significant rise in day temperatures from May 13 onwards, especially in the Jammu division.
