Hailstorm damages crops in Pulwama

SRINAGAR, June 21: Hailstorm caused extensive damage to crops including apple and vegetables in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district today.
Strong winds uprooted trees, electric poles and damaged property in many parts of the district. Locals told Excelsior that newly constructed flood channel washed away a large portion of land at Rajpora area of Pulwama.
The hailstorm was witnessed in Rajpora, Abhama, Bagh Sangerwani, Drakladan, Achgoza, Lassipora, Murran, Drabgam, Malangpora, Padgam-pora, Tral and Awantipora areas of the Pulwama district.The devastating hailstorm has resulted in damage to crops and vegetables. However, the assessment of the total damage was not known immediately.
Strong winds uprooted trees and damaged several parked vehicles in Pulwama town.
Hailstorm lasted for several minutes and caused huge damage to the vegetables and standing crops.
Hailstorm has caused damage to crops including Walnut, and apples. the most affected areas are Nagpathri, Guntagoo, Lam Hajan, Gulistan and Tral town.
The farmers have requested authorities to survey the areas where hailstorm damaged.
Locals said that hailstorm has inflicted heavy damage on crops like apple, rice saplings and other vegetables and fruits. The locals have demanded adequate compensation from the government for their losses.
