The main celebration was held at Chatti Padshahi Gurudwara near Kathi Darwaza in Srinagar, where a large number of devotees gathered to offer prayers. The event included devotional singing and sermons by Sikh clerics who spoke about Guru Nanak’s teachings of compassion, equality, and service to humanity. Free community meals, known as langars, were also organised for everyone. “Houses and Gurdwaras were decorated beautifully, and we celebrated the day with deep devotion. Guru Nanak Dev Ji had a special connection with Kashmir as he travelled here and spread his message of peace and harmony,” a devotee said.
Another devotee said the celebrations once again showed Kashmir’s tradition of unity. “As always, our Muslim neighbours joined us and helped throughout the day. We prayed for peace and brotherhood in the Valley,” he said.
Gurdwaras in Srinagar, including those at Amira Kadal, Jawahar Nagar, Allochi Bagh, Barzulla, and Rangreth, were filled with devotees. Similar celebrations took place in Pulwama, Baramulla, and other parts of north and south Kashmir, as well as in Jammu and Ladakh.
People spent the day offering prayers, singing hymns, and greeting friends and families. “This is an important day for our community, and we prayed for peace and prosperity in Kashmir,” said another worshipper.
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in 1469 at Rai-Bhoi-di Talwandi, now Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, the administration had made proper arrangements for the celebrations across the region.
