Gupta slams ‘divisive’ policy on PoJK displaced families

JAMMU, July 20: Senior National Conference (NC) leader Rajesh Gupta has voiced strong opposition to what he termed a “deliberate and dangerous conspiracy” to divide the long-suffering community of displaced persons from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
In a statement issued, Gupta condemned the selective grant of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to only certain segments within the PoJK displaced population and warned that such a move threatens to unravel decades of hard-earned unity and social cohesion among the community.
He said, “These families have endured displacement, deprivation and state neglect for more than seventy years. Instead of addressing their legitimate demands and historical injustices, the Government is now creating internal divisions that will have lasting emotional and social consequences.”
“This selective recognition is creating tensions even within households and could soon begin to influence basic aspects of life such as marriage alliances and access to welfare,” he cautioned.
The NC leader also criticized certain individuals within the community whom he accused of enabling this divide for personal or political gain.
He further urged CM Omar Abdullah to intervene and immediately halt what he described as “a policy-driven attempt to fracture” the PoJK displaced community.
