More troops rushed to strengthen cordon

JAMMU, Apr 14: A contact was established with terrorists by security forces at village Lassana in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district tonight after which reinforcement has been rushed to the spot to ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to escape taking cover of darkness.

Reports said a joint team of Army, police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and paramilitary forces established contact with the terrorists tonight at village Lassana where they had launched search and cordon operation in the evening after developing report of suspicious movement of 3-4 terrorists.
After the contact was established with the terrorists and gunshots were fired, more security personnel have been rushed to Lassana from Surankote and Poonch to strengthen the cordon.
“The cordon is being strengthened to ensure that the terrorists don’t manage to escape taking cover of darkness,” the officials said, adding the exit routes are being sealed by the police.
Senior officials are also on the spot.
There had been reports about presence of terrorists in some parts of Surankote, the officials said.
Number of the suspects was believed to be between three to four.
Last week, security forces eliminated three top terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) outfit in Chatroo area of Kishtwar district. Prior to that, two Pakistani terrorists were killed and four police personnel were martyred in an encounter at Safiyan Jakhole in Hiranagar tehsil of Kathua district. Rest of the terrorists had, however, managed to escape.
An encounter also took place at Jopher in Ramnagar tehsil of Udhampur district last week but the terrorists remained untraced.
Security forces have intensified search operations in hilly areas of different districts in the Jammu region.
