JAMMU, Aug 3: Demanding that a Gujjar from Jammu and Kashmir be inducted as member of National Commission for Schedule Tribes, the community-in a letter addressed to Prime Minister of India sent through Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation today strongly pleaded for more rights to nomadic and tribal communities.
“No Gujjar from the J&K State had ever been nominated as member of this prestigious National body since its establishment”, said Dr. Javaid Rahi while speaking in a meeting of tribal community. He further said “Foundation has written a detailed 10 pages letter to Prime Minister of India wherein among other demands highlighted the foundation on behalf of Gujjar-Bakerwal Schedule Tribe Community of J&K strongly urged that a Gujjar dignitary from J&K may be nominated as member of the Tribal Commission.
The National Commissions for Schedule Tribe deals with the issues of Tribal and nomadic communities of India and is perstigiouse organization for implementation of Tribal rights.
The letter further reads “The case for inclusion of Gojri language into official languages of India is still pending with the Union Government since 1991 which is adversely effecting on development of tribal culture of Gujjars in Jammu and Kashmir”.
