JAMMU, Feb 27: To discuss the remarkable contributions of two iconic personalities in the Gujjar community, a meeting was held here today.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Choudhary Abdul Ghani Kohli, a prominent Gujjar politician and former minister of the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The discussions centered on the remarkable contributions of two iconic personalities in the Gujjar community: Choudhary Ghulam Hussain Lissanvi (Gujjar Gandhi) and Hazrat Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi (Baba-e-Qoum).
Their historical, national and community-level contributions were highlighted and celebrated during the meeting.
Choudhary Ghulam Hussain Lissanvi, fondly remembered as the “Gujjar Gandhi,” was a trailblazer who established the Gujjar Jat Conference in 1931 to fight against the oppression faced by the Gujjar community under the rule of landlords.
His courageous acts, including burning the shops of oppressive landlords, marked a turning point in the struggle for the rights and dignity of the Gujjar community.
His efforts were so impactful that even the Maharaja of Poonch sought to identify this daring leader.
Hazrat Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi, revered as the Baba-e-Qoum (Father of the Community), is regarded as a fatherly figure not only in Jammu and Kashmir but across the entire Indian subcontinent.
His contributions to the Gujjar community have left an indelible mark, earning him immense respect and admiration.
Speaking on the occasion, Choudhary Abdul Ghani Kohli emphasized that the legacies of these two towering figures are an integral part of the Gujjar community’s heritage.
He said, “The historical contributions of Choudhary Ghulam Hussain Lissanvi and Hazrat Mian Bashir Ahmed Larvi cannot be altered or forgotten. They are the heroes of our community and it is our duty to honor and remember their sacrifices and efforts for the upliftment of the Gujjar community.”
The meeting concluded with a unanimous resolution to preserve and promote the legacy of these iconic personalities.
Among others who attended the meeting included Choudhary Ghulam Sarwar Chouhan, Alhaj Mohd Sharief Mendhar and Ishtiaq Ahmed Bhatti.
