JAMMU, July 11: The Enforcement (Central) Wing of the State Taxes Department, Jammu has realized penalties amounting to Rs 98 lakh during a sustained GST compliance and awareness campaign in the remote belts of Jammu district, including Akhnoor, Khour and Chowki Choura.
Led by Deputy Commissioner Sonu Pargal, the operations were carried out under the supervision of Namrita Dogra, Additional Commissioner (Enforcement & Administration), and PK Bhat, Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K. The drive combined enforcement with awareness, focusing on educating traders, transporters, and consumers about key provisions of the GST Act, 2017, especially the requirement of proper documentation during the movement of goods.
The Enforcement team has verified over 68,000 e-Way Bills so far, identifying violations such as movement of goods without mandatory e-Way Bills or e-Invoices, quantity mismatches, misclassification of goods, use of fake GSTINs, and incorrect tax rate declarations.
The Enforcement (Central) team-also comprising Saima Khan, Assistant Commissioner, and Simmi (STO)-emphasized that while penalties are necessary to deter violations, the broader goal remains fostering voluntary compliance through awareness.
