GSI hosts workshop on ‘Landslide Challenges and Mitigation Measures’

JAMMU, June 13: A one-day workshop on the theme “Landslide Challenges and Mitigation Measures in UT: Jammu & Kashmir and UT: Ladakh” organized by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), was held here today.
Representatives from various stakeholder institutions, including the State Disaster Management Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction, National Institute of Hydrology, Central University, Jammu, University of Jammu, University of Kashmir, Cluster University, Jammu, Department of Geology and Mining and Centre Ground Water Board, Jammu participated in the discussions.
Brigadier Anuraj Tyagi from the Northern Command (Knight Cops) and Dr Mohd Haseeb Mughal, DIG – Traffic Police Department also shared ground-level challenges related to landslides.
The workshop was conducted under the chairmanship of Rajinder Kumar, additional Director General and HoD, NR, GSI, Lucknow and in the esteemed presence of Sanjiv Kumar, DDG & RMH-IV.
Convened by Dr P S Misra, Dy DG, J&K and Ladakh, GSI, the event featured valuable contributions from retired senior officers of GSI.
A panel discussion on landslide disaster management in Ramban area, served as a key highlight, fostering knowledge exchange and stakeholder engagement.
Experts shared insights on landslide studies, data utilization and collaborative strategies for societal benefit and sustainable development.
Presentations from GSI and other stakeholders underscored the importance of scientific data in improving disaster resilience across the region.
This workshop marks a significant step toward strengthening coordination among stakeholders and implementing effective measures to mitigate landslide-related risks in Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The workshop was also attended virtually by representatives from GSI-GHRM Cell, Kolkata, GSI State Unit, Lucknow, GSI State Unit, Uttarakhand and GSI Srinagar Office.
In addition, officials from NHIDCL, CVVP, Kiru-Kishtwar Hydro Project, as well as academicians from various institutions across Jammu and Kashmir participated online.
