UDHAMPUR, Jan 3: With the arrest of accused and recovery of stolen items, General Railway Police (GRP) Udhampur solved a theft case that took place in Jammu Mail train 10 days back when a purse of Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrim, containing gold items, was stolen.
The victim, namely Geeta Devi, wife of Rakesh Kumar of B-124, Vishvas Park, Uttam Nagar, New Delhi, had lodged a written complaint in this regard at Police Station, GRP Katra.
She was on way from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra by Jammu Mail train. On reaching Railway Station Udhampur, she noticed that her purse containing gold Mangalsutar, one gold chain, gold ear rings and silver anklet (payal) valuing 80 thousands was stolen by someone. A case FIR number 02/2021 U/S 380 IPC dated 23/12/21 was registered at Police Station GRP Udhampur .
Acting on her complaint, the GRP Police Udhampur examined CCTV footage and required dump data collected from the concerned and after thorough examination, a number of suspects were rounded up. During questioning, one suspect namely Irshad Ahmed alias Naveed, son of Gh Qadir Sheikh of Shiv Nagar Udhampur admitted to have committed the offense. On the disclosure of the accused, the recovery of stolen items was made.
The whole operation was conducted by SHO Police Station GRP Udhampur, Inspector Sanjay Raina and his team under the supervision of SSP Railway Katra Sanjay Kotwal.
