GRP Jammu seizes contraband worth Rs 1.65 cr in two years

JAMMU, Dec 28: In its ongoing crackdown on drug trafficking, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu has registered 18 cases under the NDPS Act in 2025.
Meanwhile, over the last two years, a total of 30 FIRs have been filed by the Railway Police.
“These actions have led to the arrest of 33 drug peddlers and the seizure of contraband worth over Rs 1.65 crore at market value,” a GRP official said.
He said, in a major step, the Railway Police booked two of the most notorious drug peddlers under the PIT NDPS Act 1988.
“And this was the first time GRP Jammu unit took action under this (PIT NDPS Act) law,” he said.
During the same period, he said, Police Station GRP Jammu also seized two Indian-made pistols (.315 bore) and legal action was initiated against the accused.
The Railway police also arrested 12 long-absconding accused who had been evading arrest for the past 15 to 20 years, he said.
“They were wanted under section 512 of the CrPC and have now been produced before the concerned courts,” added the police official.
