JAMMU, Mar 13: J&K unit of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), has strongly demanded that farmers who have been cultivating land for many years must be granted ownership rights without further delay.
In a statement issued today, Darshan Rana, president of the unit said that many families displaced during the wars of 1947, 1965 and 1971 were allotted land for cultivation. These families have been continuously cultivating the land for decades and have made it productive through their hard work and dedication. However, despite the passage of many years, these farmers are still deprived of legal ownership rights over the land they till.
He said that keeping farmers deprived of ownership rights for such a long period is unjust and against the principles of natural justice. Farmers who depend entirely on agriculture for their livelihood deserve security and dignity, which can only be ensured when they are granted proper legal ownership of the land.
Rana urged the Jammu & Kashmir administration to immediately review the matter and formulate a clear and transparent policy to grant ‘Malikana Haq’ (ownership rights) to deserving farmers. He further stated that granting ownership rights will strengthen the rural economy, promote agricultural development and provide long-awaited justice to hardworking farming families.
