JAMMU, Nov 20: The Nagar Kirtan—a sacred procession originating in Srinagar to mark the 350th Martyrdom Anniversary of the Ninth Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji—received a grand and spirited Khalsai welcome in Jammu before advancing towards its next destination, Pathankot, en route to Sri Anandpur Sahib.
The core of the event was the profound display of devotion as thousands of devotees, including many walking barefoot for long stretches, created a deep spiritual atmosphere during the procession’s late-night reception at Manda in Jammu and onward journey today.
The elaborate arrangements at Manda were led by the District Gurdwara Management Committee Jammu, with joint support from numerous gurdwaras, including Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Guru Nanak Nagar, Gurdwara Yadgar Sri Bala Pritam Ji Trikuta Nagar, Gurdwara Yadgar Chhevin Patshahi Talab Tillo, Gurdwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha Bakshi Nagar, Gurdwara Yadgar Sri Guru Angad Patshah Ji Preet Nagar, Gurdwara Kalghidhar Sahib Rehari, Gurdwara Yadgar Sant Sundar Singh Ji Tapo Sthan Akhnoor, and Surinder Singh Kala.
RTO Jammu Jasveer Singh, Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji president Ranjit Singh Tohra, Sant Tejwant Singh Dannewale, general secretary Ranbir Singh, Jagpal Singh (treasurer), Taranjeet Singh (Dharam Prachar Committee Incharge), Balwinder Singh, and Surjit Singh (general secretary) were among the attendees.
The Nagar Kirtan’s stopover at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, Jammu, was a major highlight. As the procession departed, Sikh youth demonstrated the martial art Gatka, and the local sangat showered flowers upon the palanquin carrying Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. A large number of local devotees joined the procession to pay homage.
Receptions were also held at Singh Sabha Gurdwara Akali Kaur Singh Nagar (Digiana), Sri Sant Mela Singh Ji Dastkari Ashram, and Singh Sabha Gurdwara Digiana Camp, attended by community leaders like Rajinder Singh Wazir, Rajinder Singh Raina, Narinder Singh Wazir, Sandeep Singh, Mahant Manjit Singh, Charanjeet Singh, Manjeet Singh, and Suraj Singh.
Kashmiri Sikh Sangat at Dogyal and Amar, including Sarpanch Vikram Singh, Swarn Singh, Simranjeet Singh, Surjit Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Darbari Singh and others, offered a special kahwa langar. Further langar and greetings were provided by the sangat at Mata Vaishno Devi Bypass (Kunjuwani) and Sarore.
In Vijaypur, former J&K cabinet minister Manjeet Singh, Giani Harpal Singh, Jasvir Singh, Harnam Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Gurdeep Singh, and the local sangat organized a welcome and langar. A warm reception also took place at Bari Brahmana.
