SRINAGAR, Apr 3: The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, today strongly condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it an “unsuccessful attempt” to take over Muslim property and vowing to challenge it in the Supreme Court.
Mufti said that it threatens the rights of the Muslim community, necessitating a legal battle to safeguard their interests. “This is the beginning of a war against Muslims,” he said.
He said that the bill is designed to create disputes between religious communities and empower collectors to act against Muslim interests. “It is a way to defame and divide, to dilute minorities,” he said. Click here to watch video
Mufti described the bill as an “attack on the basic structure of the Constitution” and announced that the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and other organizations will collectively decide their course of action. “If they decide to challenge it legally, we will join them. Otherwise, we will independently fight this bill in the Supreme Court,” he said.
He also revealed that religious leaders, including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have called for an urgent meeting to strategize their response. “We will bring together scholars from all schools of thought, including Jamaat-e-Ahl-e-Hadees and the Shia community, to take a united stand,” he said.
Mufti criticized the Government’s approach, warning that this bill is just the beginning of further challenges against Muslims. “This so-called ‘Ummeed’ (Hope) Bill is actually a move towards hopelessness for Muslims,” he said.
