JAMMU, Apr 19: A grand one-day national-level Baisakhi Festival is all set to be celebrated on April 20 in Jammu, jointly organized by Master Sansar Chand Baru Memorial Trust and Tourism Department, Northern Zone.
The event will feature a vibrant showcase of Indian culture through music, dance, theatre and art. A one-day on-the-spot painting camp will bring together eminent artists from seven States, while local flavours will be highlighted through folk music, classical dance performances and a Dogri play.
The event has garnered support of several prominent personalities from the region. Notably, Ritu Singh, a member of the royal family and R.K Suman, Deputy Director General of ‘Incredible India’, are key supporters of this initiative.
Ritu Singh will coordinate the art camp, which will see enthusiastic participation from students of DPS School. Participating artists include Amit Anand, Vijay Anand, Sonam Sikarwar, Sharmila Sharma, Suman Dogre, Rakhi Kumar and Akram Khan.
Renowned Kathak dancer Gauri Diwakar will grace the stage with a classical dance performance.
Adding to the local charm, SHO Rakesh Jamwal of PS Kacchi Chhawni will showcase his musical talent.
Anuradha Rishi, President of the Trust, said: “Our aim is to connect the youth with their roots-through art, through culture. We’ve managed to change mindsets, bring art to places where no festivals ever happened and spark a new cultural awakening.”
She acknowledged overwhelming support from local residents, dignitaries, administrative officials and young people.
