JAMMU, Dec 29: Minister for Transport, Satish Sharma today assured that the genuine issues raised by the Kashmir Tourist Drivers Coordination Committee (KTDCC) will be addressed by the Government within a stipulated period of 15 days.
The assurance was given during a meeting held in the chambers of the Minister for Transport, Jammu & Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by M Y Tarigami, MLA and president CITU, J&K, along with senior officers of the Transport Department, including the Secretary, Transport.
During the meeting, the members of KTDCC highlighted several key issues, prominently the introduction of a uniform colour-coding system for tourist taxis, on the pattern of Delhi, Maharashtra and other states.
They emphasized that such a system would facilitate easy identification of authorized taxis by passengers and tourists, enhance road safety, curb the operation of unauthorized or fake taxis and improve regulation, accountability and professionalism within the taxi sector.
The Minister acknowledged the concerns raised and stated that since the matter involves policy-level decisions, the Transport Department will initiate immediate steps to address the issues within a fortnight.
Abdul Rashid Pandit, Secretary, CITU, J&K, Owais Ahmad and Mudassar Ahmad, chairman and president KTDCC were also present during in the meeting.
